Ensure a Reliable, Available, and Resilient Infrastructure with Red Hat Linux and Cloverleaf

Access to healthcare information is a critical component to providing quality patient care.  But access to this data may be jeopardized in situations such as power outages, failed hardware, operating system failures, and the list goes on.  It is important to closely consider your system design and implementation for the highest degree of availability possible.

Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Advanced Platform, the leading open source computing platform, combined with Healthvision's Cloverleaf® Interface Engine configured for high availability (HA) provide a powerful high-availability and reliable solution for healthcare interoperability.

With Cloverleaf there are various configurations you can consider for HA:

  • Active/Passive - in this configuration, there is a primary instance of Cloverleaf actively handling requests and running services.  Then there is a fully functional instance of Cloverleaf in "standby" simply there as a backup in case the primary instance fails.
  • Active/Test - in this configuration, you have two instances of Cloverleaf running services, a primary and a secondary.  The primary instance is hosting production sites and the secondary is hosting test sites. The secondary is available to host both test and production sites if the primary instance fails.
  • Active/Active - in this configuration, you have two instances of Cloverleaf running production services.  They are redundant instances acting as in unison.  In the case of a failover on one of the instances, the other simply picks up.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform provides:

  • World-class security and reliability. Red Hat tests and scrutinizes open source code built by the world's largest development community, ensuring that hospitals don't have to worry about security or reliability.
  • Integrated fault tolerance technologies, including clustering and virtualization for automatic failover.
  • Award-winning 24x7 support and training.

Together, Cloverleaf and Enterprise Linux can help your organization create a highly resilient IT infrastructure that can meet your internal service-level needs.

You can find out more about how Cloverleaf and Red Hat Enterprise Linux in combination benefitted Florida Hospital, the largest hospital in Florida comprised of seven hospitals and over 30 urgent care facilities in the Orlando area. Their facility treats more than one million patients a year and uses the Cloverleaf Interface Engine on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform.
